Midi & Synth Question

I wanted to ask if anyone knew how I can play my midi notes through a sonar plugin. I record alot of notes down and I use different midi controlled hardware to change sounds but know I feel like I'm running out fresh sounds and I don't want to buy any more equipment now and was wonder if I can be able to make new sounds from a plugin that would read my notes in Sonar XL 2.0 I would like to be able to press play in sonar and then be able to tweak a plugin for the new sound. Any websites with help or certain types that are better hen others would be a great help to me.
