hi guys,

a couple of times recently, my computer would hang during boot and display an error message relating to checksum. when i hit the reset button, the computer then restarts the boot process and everything works fine.

is this a ram issue? if so that's an easy rma, because i gots lifetime replacement on it.

It is more likely with the BIOS of the motherboard. The easiest place to start would be by changing the battery. If that doesn't change things then it might be more serious.

As wolfpuppy said. I would possible try to clear your cmos and see it the problem does not disappear. Check you mobo manual on how to clear your cmos. After that you may want to go into you bios for a little tweaking

A checksum error at boot is generally not the BIOS itself, but rather all the BIOS setup screen data that gets stored in battery-backed NVRAM. This usually means that the little coin-sized lithium battery that preserves this data has gone dead. Usually a number CR2032 battery (about the size of a US nickel coin) on most mobos.

i just bought the mobo recently. i guess a battery can die at any time. thanks for all the info guys.

it happened about 3 times, but i haven't seen it happen for about a week. since i'm in the process of building my system, i'm doing a lot of installs and tweaks. i also ran win98se on a different drive to try some stuff out. so maybe i just freaked it out temporarily.

but if it seems to lurk, i'll swap out the battery. and the memory test thing looks cool..thanks! (I love diagnostics and stuff).
