hi guys,
so far the uad-1 card is working great. i do notice one thing, however:
there is a bit of residual noise that comes out my pc headphone jack when i use the uad-1 card. if i bypass the effect(s) then the noise goes away.
i can't see it on the meters in my daw. when i pull the master fader up or down it has no effect on the volume of this background noise. it's just kind of always there coming off the headphone jack.
it seems like there is some crosstalk between the uad-1 and my headphone output. anybody else experience this?
all i'm using right now is my computer headphone outputs until i get my new ad-da converters. i don't have a "proper" soundcard, but it's kind of bothering me that i'm picking up this stray noise.
it seems so weird that it doesn't show up on the meters in my software, but hitting bypass on all the uad-1 effects makes the problem go away.
i tried putting the digitalfishphones denormalization plug inline, doesn't affect it. i don't think it's denormalization. it's some sort of grounding/hardware crosstalk issue i believe

Have you tried putting the UAD in another slot?

I would not sweat it too much until you get a "proper" soundcard. A decent monitoring system is important also. I still have and use a pair of venerable 4312 JBL monitors and a M-70 Yamaha power amp that I bought 20 years ago. My mixes always sound good http://www.audioforums.com/forums/smile.gifWhich audio card are you looking at getting? Whatever you do, don't get one of those BSLive game cards. Especially, with the UAD-1, you want to get a decent 24/96 pro-sumer with proven low latency (like <3msec) WDM/ASIO drivers that work well in an XP environment. I am using a Delta 66, in WinXP, with my UAD-1 and could not be happier with the stability and performance of my DAW. Using the Delta in WDM mode whilst in SONAR 2.2 and ASIO mode when using Vegas 4b and ACID Pro 4b. The UAD-1 3.01 (using the DX PPI's exclusively) has been very stable and sounds great in whichever of the aforementioned apps or drivers modes I am working in.

Hey Bubba - You've gotta be about the only person in the world with a UAD-1, and no sound card! http://www.audioforums.com/forums/smile.gif
I agree with Billy B. No point troubleshooting this until you get a soundcard, and yes, please don't pair that glorious UAD card up with a SoundBlaster. M-Audio Audiophile cards are going for less than $150.

I know, I know. It's like driving a Ferrari with a set of Kia tires on it.
Trust me, I'm aiming *way* above soundblaster. The UAD 2192 is starting to catch my eye. I've been thinking about a Lynx card. But with this residual noise thing happening inside my computer, i'm starting to like the idea of usb/firewire for digital i/o.

the way i learn best is to start with something small that works. then i build my understanding in concentric cirles around the known core knowledge.
for me the "core" in this situation is the cpu/mobo/chipset/ram/os. it's all getting built out from there.

Firewire soundcards...I can't wait to test out the new M-Audio Omnistudio Firewire. It looks so perfect for home studios that require a bit of mobile flexibility. Is anyone else planning to get one?

Bubba - yeah, I'm lusting for a Lynx card myself. I'm using a Delta 66, which is a decent interface, but I want to know that if something doesn't sound as good as I'd like, it's my fault, not the soundcard's. From all I've gathered, Lynx cards are beyond reproach, possibly better than some respected standalone converters.

Hi Robert. This might interest you - as you know I have a Lynx and prior to trading it for an RME Hammerfall I also had a Delta 66. Well, when comparing the Lynx to the Delta I used to find that the Delta was not capturing some of the high harmonics - especially noticeable on a 12 string guitar.
In hunting around for a solution I came across this free plug that went a long way towards restoring some of those missing harmonics:

Trock - Thanks. So, why did you trade the Lynx for the RME Hammerfall? I know Samplitude recommends RME, was it compatibility with 7.0?

Hi Robert. No, I traded the Delta for the RME. I'd never give up my Lynx! Currently I have the Lynx and the RME but I never use the RME so I'm planning on trading it for an L22.
