View Full Version : Why won't sonar profile second soundcard?

I just added a second soundcard (delta 66), but Sonar's wave profiler will not profile Delta's drivers--not even after I select them as preferred drivers in window's multimedia settings.

I already had an EWX 24/96 installed, which Sonar is now using. Delta's drivers do not show up anywhere in Sonar's audio settings.

No irq conflicts. Latest drivers installed. Wave Lab Lite profiles Delta's drivers just fine and plays back the audio files. The only device/program that does not recognize Delta's drivers on my computer is SONAR.

Could someone help?

Thanks,

Peter

I believe Sonar will only recognize 1 card at a time. If you want to switch cards in Sonar first disable the EWX, then let Sonar profile your Delta and finally re-enable the EWX for other applications.

Hope this helps

SONAR will recognize and profile multiple audio cards. I have a dual boot WinME/WinXP DAW, and on my WinME partition all three of my audio devices(Delta 66 MME, Korg OASYS MME and Roland UA-100 USB MME) are recognized and properly profiled(some thirty channels of audio). I think the problem may be that SONAR will only recognize and profile one driver format and WDM takes precedence. IOW, if you have a WDM and a MME device installed, SONAR will only recognize the WDM card unless you check the "Always use MME, even when WDM available" option under the Advanced audio properties in SONAR.
SONAR will then treat the WDM device as MME, allowing you to use other MME devices. But you will lost the low latency capabilities of WDM though as it now acts like a typical MME driver. So you should be able to use multiple audio devices, but you cannot mix device types.

Thanks so much for your help!

The problem had to do with driver compatibility. It works now, but I still have to figure out which card uses which type of drivers.

And thanks for the insight regarding the MME versus WDM drivers. Right now the "always use MME..." option is selected in Sonar, and I would like to use the WDM drivers for better latency response.

Yeah, if you are wanting the lowest stable latency, with the least amount of CPU usage, WDM with a W2K/XP OS is the only way to go.
It all starts with the drivers though. If they have not been field tested and proven in the field, I would not waste my time.
