I'm new to this entire thing, but I've been trying to read as much as I can and get as much advice as possible before I start buying. The first thing I need to upgrade is my sound card. I've been looking into the Terratec EWS88 MT. If there is anyone out there with this card using Sonar 2.0, please let me know how your experience has been and if there is anything I should know before I proceed.
Also, is there enough difference between the EWX24/96 product and the EWS88 MT to justify the price difference in this application?

The EWS 88 MT, doesn't that have 8 inputs?? If it does it means you can record 8 tracks at once. THe 24/96 had 2, 1 stereo in pair. If you don't need 8 track input just buy the 24/96.

Does the EWX24/96 give me any support for MIDI inputs? While the EWX88 MT has MIDI IN/OUT on the front of the outboard unit, how would this be done with the EWX24/96? You are right, that I certainly don't need 8 inputs on my soundcard as I could just use a mixer into the EXW24/96. Does anyone out there use MIDI controllers throught the EWX24/96? How is that accomplished?

I guess the answer is MIDI to USB? Is that reliable?

it has a midi input, you get a thing in the box which plugs in to it for midi. i work a keyboard from it no problems.

I have the EWS88MT and SONAR 2.0 WDM drivers have been very solid for a year and a half, and are updated periodically (Available for 98,ME,2K and XP). I also use Orion Pro and occasionally VSampler in standalone mode, and the ASIO drivers are also excellent. Great card, highly recommended. You're right though if you don't need 8 Inputs, you may want to look at one of their cheaper alternatives.
