I've got a via kt133a...now, I know they're notorious for daw's, but...on the ezboard site, someone suggested setting up a "separate promise ide controller card" and disabling the onboard (via?) one. I'm using Cubase 5.1r1 w/ Delta 1010. With 8 tracks of audio w/ effects and compression, I'm getting "rice crispy treats" PLEASE HELP! Can I buy a ide controller @ Fry's and fix my problem?

No because the problem with the Via IDE bus is that it's extremely narrow in bandwidth.I already tried it to no avail. What I did do was download the high performance IDE drivers(Turbo?)from Via's site, then threw my CD burner/rom on the extra Promise channel(slot 2 of that) and put my main drive(OS) on IDE 1(slot 1) the slaved my recording drive to it.That worked very well,in fact better than some of my other setups with a Promise card. Then I switched to a SiS chipset and that worked even better.

I've got 2 hard drives. all audio goes to D: Cubase is on C:, along with win98 and the delta. So, I download the turbo driver. But do I set up the (slots?) in BIOS? or windows.....maybe I should just buy a new motherboard!!!!!

Also, the George Breeze patch that was posted above helps with bandwidth as well.

I hope you're not irritated by my ignorance, but I don't have a clue how to set up my hard drives other than in bios. ...I went by Fry's today and they have an intel motherboard for $79; another for $139 (didn't have time to look at the processor prices though)...maybe I could use this via machine for games and internet only, use an intel, nvidia, or sis for audio recording...?
