I can choose reason as a rewire device and I want to record the redrum device but on the audio track in sonar the R for record isnt allowing me to push it. What am I doing wrong?

I don't know if this is the same issue as your having, but I suspect it may be. In Sonar 1, to record DXi instruments (controlled by a midi track) as audio, I just put the audio track (with the DXi patched as an effect) in record and ran the song. In Sonar 2, with the same setup, when I put the track in record it automatically changes my input source (I can't recall what the setting were.) Anyway, I looked at Help and it describes a method of using Bounce to Tracks, which is actually much cooler because you don't have to roll the song. Basically, you mute all the tracks you don't want to record, select the one you do (e.g. the midi track) and bounce to the audio track (e.g. the one with the effect patched in). There may be a simpler way (i.e. muting all the unwanted tracks seems too lame to be necessary, so I'm probably missing something.)

I hope this isn't too convoluted an explanation, but check out Help. I think your problem is something similar. Good luck.

There's a problem when trying to record existing Reason tracks into SONAR2 audio tracks, even when using the "Bounce to Tracks" function: if SONAR doesn't see some MIDI data in the ReWire MIDI track, it won't record any audio at all. So obviously: if you have an existing tune in Reason that you're trying to bring over into SONAR (to add audio tracks, DXi/VSTi's, etc)...there won't BE any MIDI data in SONAR...everything over in Reason still!

The way around this: place a single MIDI note into the very beginning of the SONAR MIDI track connected to the Reason module, with the lowest length and velocity value possible. this "tricks" SONAR into recording the audio tracks your might have in Reason.

I wrote step-by-step directions on how to do this over at the EM411 site, at:
http://www.em411.com/technique.php?tech_id=78

There's also another general step-by-step guide on using Reason and SONAR2 together via ReWire at:

Hope this helps! http://www.audioforums.com/forums/smile.gif
