using a aardvark q10
do I have to do the gated rverb effect with outboard effects or is there a way with just sonar? and if so, how?
I have heard about sending a reverb effect through a aux send then to a gate. thanks

SONAR supports DX plug-ins, so yes, it is certainly possible to do it within SONAR. Of course you have to isolate the snare to its own track, whether it's an audio track already or a MIDI track (there's a Split Notes to Tracks CAL script that will readily separate a MIDI drum track into separate tracks, on for each piec of the kit). If it is a MIDI track you need to render it to audio before applying the effect.
Once you have an audio track of just snare, apply a reverb plug-in and adjust the parameters. I suspect most of the decent reverb plug-ins have a way to apply a gate within themselves, just like an external reverb box has this functionality.

thanks for responding but I'm still looking for the name of what plugin/reverb that will do this.
I do have the snare on one track and I can add reverb with an aux send and then use a gate on it but it didnt sound very good.
I have the waves gold package, dsp ex, and cant find a preset for a simple gated reverb.

If it's simplicity you're after, why not use Sonars' own "Mono Reverb" plug-in? -It doesn't get much simpler than that...
