Hi All!
My friend needs a budget DAW to do some light multitracking (nothing too serious) & since I've been researching to build my own, I offered to help him with his. After reading through a LOT of the great threads on this & some other forums, we decided on:
ASUS a7s333 SiS 745 chipset (MWAVE bundle w/256MB Kingston PC2100 ram & 1700+ XP) BIOS v6.0 revision 1003
Western Digital Caviar 80GB w/8MB cache
ATI RADEON 7000 32MB
ANTEC Truepower 330W PSU
Lite On 48x24x48
Just using motherboard’s sound right now. Haven’t convinced him to spring for a real sound card yet.
WIN98se
The system seems to be acting unstable. Sonar will only open in 1 in maybe 5 boots. Usually the splash screen appears & just sits there.
Ntrack is a little different. It starts every time but crashes every time it searches for DirectX Plugins. I assume DirectX is installed w/Win 98.
Also, I noticed that in "Multimedia Properties", clicking on advanced" recording/playback options will SOMETIMES cause the window to crash & won’t reopen after I used ctrl+alt+del to close it. & sometimes there’s no prob doing this at all.
Only other software (besides some motherboard drivers) is Nero & Partition Magic.
CPU temp in BIOS reads 39 deg cel.
Could these problems be happening ‘cause there is no dedicated sound card installed yet?
Or did we miss something putting it all together?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
