My mix is pretty good. but most people will listen to my CD on cheap stuff with the dreaded "Bass Boost" on. I want to fine tune my mix to keep the low end from muddying up too much when they "boost" it while preserving the integrity of the mix as best I can.
What has helped is I cut 2dbs at 315k with a Q of 2.5.
What do you guys do? Thanks

That is a good start. Try rounding everything below 45 hz off with a multiband compressor. Anything below 45 tends to make the speaker work too hard if the program is very dynamic at that level. This makes it hard for the mid bass to speak. Give it a try.

Thanks for your input Anakinskye. I know this will sound stupid but what exactly do you mean by "rounding off"?
When I record bass into my VS DAW, I apply some compression and Rolands' internal BBE'ish enhancer. I also add 3dbs at 300k to give it more bite. Then when I mix it down, I raise it another 2db at 300k and it stands out nicely along side the guitar's low mids.( I've received numerous how'd you do that to the bass? It sounds great! comments ) This worked great for my cassette tape based demo's but I need to rework it now. I'm thinking of trying a new approach. Maybe I can bring out the same voice characteristics by pulling back on the Bass tracks' EQ faders in the other frequency ranges.
How do you guy's address this in your own studios, or am I entering "trade secret" territory? Would you tell me your initial set-ups?

All I mean by round off is basically compress between 2:1 or about 2.5:1 below 45 hz with the threshold set to taste.
