View Full Version : Processor Requirements/Streamlining

I just purchased the Renaissance Collection Native. And I'm finding that in trying to use it on a sixteen track seesion I just recorded yesterday, I can only apply the compressor two times, and the reverb once before the system chokes.

I'm running AudioDesk/MOTU 2408 on a blue/white G3/350 w/448 Megs RAM (250 assigned).

I really need to apply the compressor to the bass, kick, and snare, while simultaneously applying the reverb to the snare and overheads. This chked the system, and I got an error forcing me to turn off the effects.

I tried applying the compressor to only the kick and snare, with the reverb applied to the snare, then using the standard basic MOTU reverb as an effect on a buss to which I sent the overheads and HiHat, but even this was too much.

Is there a way I can streamline things to get at least minimal useage out of these things without having to re-record tracks individually after processing?

This seems a bit extreme as far as processing requirements. I do a lot of Grpahics animation using heavily effected After Effects Compositions and complex 3D animations, but I've never seen anything with processor requirements like this.

How much of an increase in channel useage can I expect out of a G4 over the G3?

Well the only thing you can do really is bounce the effected tracks one at a time to a new track with the fx applied to them.

I was hoping there was a way to increase performance without having to create a whole bunch of processing/track replacing/disk space issues, etc. I had no idea that the plug-ins were this processor intensive.

If I could get to the point where I could the renaissance compressor to two tracks (kick and snare), and the renaissance reverb to three tracks (gated reverb for snare, and then reverb to the overheads), I'd be able to finish the task at ahnd without making it overly complicated. But this seems to be too much to ask for the G3/350. Or should the machine be able to handle this?

Thanks,

Not a chance. Especially the Ren Reverb is a host system killer.

So what kind of horsepower woud be required before a simple setup like this could be achieved?
