multitracking with cool edit

Hi.
I have cool edit pro running on windows 2000 and a SB Audigy.
Anywho. Any time i try any multitrack recording, the existing tracks are written onto the track which is flagged fro recording. eg. if i have a drum beat set up on track 1 and want to record a guitar on track 2. Then track 2 will record the guitar AND the drumbeat from the 1st track. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this? Thanks.

I had this problem when I first got CE a few years ago. Check your soundcard's mixer and make sure line-in is the only record source that is active.

You are routing the signal both from the new input and the old track into the new track. On my Tascam TM-D1000 I had to learn to route the playback away from the recording busses.
