I've recently decided that I want to go with the Asus A7S333 motherboard so I emailed midiman to see if that Audiophile 2496 was compatible with it and this was the reply I got:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Chris,

We have not test with this board or chipset specifically. We have tested with the SiS 740, which is a very nice chipset which is of the same mold as the SiS 745. The Asus boards we will always recommend. Good choice.

Thanks."

So should I take the chance and just pray that it all works out ok, or go for a different mobo? I mean it sounds like a safe bet, but then again, there's that slight chance. ughh, what to do.

I use M-Audio with the SiS 735,no problems at all,Iv'e seen many people post the same results with the 745.Iv'e never heard of the 740 though and am not sure what M-Audio is referring to.The SiS chipset from the 735 on is basically the same with improvements with each new model.I wouldn't worry at all.One thing to note though,Asus claim of overclockability with this board is false, and they claimed they were going to take that claim down from their site, but have failed to do so as of yet. This could come into play if your planning on getting a 333FSB T-Bred B or 400FSB chip.If your interested in those go for the NForce 2 chipset rather than the SiS or wait for SiS's upcoming board that will properly support bus speeds higher than 266 as a base speed.

Ok, that's cool. As for the overclocking, nah, I highly highly doubt I will. I plan on getting the Athlon XP 1800...of anything that will be 333, it will be the memory and not the processor.

The Asus NForce 2 is around the same money and is backward compatible with the 266FSB Athlon XP 1800,when the 333 or 400 FSB Bartons drop in price next summer you'll wish you spent your money a little more wisely.Anyway, you'll be fine either way.

333DDR with a 266 FSB chip isn't going give any more performance than PC2100 and is a waste of extra $$$ unless you plan on upgrading in the future.

Thanks Alan, you've been a big help in this http://www.audioforums.com/forums/smile.gif

As for that comment, well, I really can't spend anymore on this system than what I plan to...I have college and other things to worry about. Trust me, if I had the extra dough, I'd be going for a much faster processor and much quicker board...but I think this will get me by for a while. Ughh, the wonders of life. http://www.audioforums.com/forums/rolleyes.gif
