View Full Version : Is there a way to monitor the entire multitrack mix while applying FX to a track?

Fellow Cool Editors,
When adding FX to a track, we all know how a track may sound one way when soloed, but then when put back into multitrack (with the rest of the mix) you then realize it still needs work. Is there any way to somehow monitor other tracks while in EDIT mode, thus hearing the resulting adjustment in relation to the entire mix. Maybe by using a combination of INS and OUTS (with your soundcard). I was even thinking of doing a mix down of the whole session (minus the track being edited-assigning it to one half of a stereo track, putting the track needing the editing on the other half, then opening the stereo track in the EDIT screen. Then you can try different EQs, experiment with reverbs, etc, while all the time hearing it in relation to the mix. I haven't tried this yet but something tells me it might not work.
I was hoping maybe someone had a better system or knew of a way to make my "stereo track" technique work.
This would save allot of headaches.
I hear that CEP 2 has track EQ. But what degree of mutiband adjustment does it allow? Not a parametric EQ in the MUTITRACK screen , I assume?
Maybe CEP 2.1 can address editing individual tracks while being able to monitor the entire mix. But in the mean time, if someone has a technique for doing this, they would be a hero around here !!!
....thanks in advance
