Fellow Cool Editors,
I'm a little confused about the combination of WinXP, CEP, and my sound card - Delta 44.
I know that for Win2000 (which I tried to install last year) my sound card needed WDM drivers to work with Win2000, and that CEP didn't support WDM.
Now I'm building a new P4 system and want to install WinXP. I hear that XP has the stability of Win2000, yet support of Win98 - so since it supports similar to Win98 , does that mean it'll support my Delta 44 and CEP?(with whatever drivers, I don't care)
Or do I still have to worry about the WDM drivers again, like with Win2000?
In conclusion - Does CEP support WDM drivers, or MME drivers with 24bit , or even ASIO drivers.
Thank you in advance.

Go to http://forums.syntrillium.com and browse the CoolEdit forum; a thread about this very subject has been growing over the past few days.

In my own opinion: I recently had an unsuccessful attempt to marry Win2k, CEP and a Delta-66. Whether the problem is my motherboard, my video card or some obscure driver conflict, the operation was unacceptable, producing constant crackle and buzz. This did not occur with Win98SE.
My conclusion, helped along with the educated perspectives of other forum members, has settled on accepting 98 as the OS that it is: not the best but capable of maintaining a relatively stable system. What's a crash or lockup here and there compared to hardware not working properly at all?

Incidentally, the thread resulted in most of the contributers agreeing on the rather inhospitable environments that WinME/2k/XP provide for many major audio cards. No dice. Perhaps associatively, the thread then meandered into liquor varieté. http://www.audioforums.com/forums/smile.gif

I'd suggest sticking with 98 for the time being.

I don't have a Delta, but Win XP is working fine with my Inca 88 and it even solved my video problems.
