1) Trolls like "Latin-Macho"
2) High-schoolers and college idiots with too much time on their hands
3) Warez peddlers
This place has been a circus for the last year.

What's a 'collage' idiot? I know nothing about collages.
But seriously, I'm in college, man. You hurt me!

Your name has the word moderator next to it. Do you have any responsibilities as the moderator? Hanging the nomenclature "troll" on Latin-Mucho is a discredit to all trolls. Why aren't those kind of posts removed or at least locked. These are common functions to other Ultimate Bulletin Board powered forums that are moderated. It keeps the signal to noise at a reasonable level and it would separate this forum from the swill over on the alt newsgroups.

I’m a longtime lurker of this forum from when it started on Pixelite. I agree with Beetlefan, this isn’t what it used to be. I’ve checked out Syntrillium’s own version of this forum and I feel that it’s frequented more by beginners. When informed conversation breaks out here I feel more at home. Still, someone needs to be at the steering wheel keeping things inline. I tried to keep my previous posts’ topic centered on audio software, but boy there was a lot of extraneous garbage. I’m shocked but something tells me I shouldn’t be.

Really, Sonic Valley, if you don't start using the delete key now and then, this forum will die. It's already pretty withered.

If you all note, Sonic Valley is NOT the moderator of this forum. Syntrillium is. Sonic is the moderator of the Air Check forum. So asking him to delete posts here will go on deaf fingers.
Well, I think if a new version of the software was released, we might all have something to talk about!
As it is, CEP 1.n has been out for years now and I think people who know what they're doing having pretty much explored all the possibilites. Some of them, myself included, may have moved on to other software...

Well that explains why then. Sorry Sonic Valley. Has Syntrillium left this forum for a few bad apples to ruin it? That's too bad.

Ouch, I think there's a grain of truth to that.

Yupp...DS got it right. If we had these little piss fights in the Air Check forum I could have more control. I've asked Chris Puram the dude who runs this place for moderation over other forums but no go...so the tag by my name means jack shyte. I'll be talking to Chris again soon and see what can be done to clean this place up. Frankly I'm disgusted with the rep this place is getting.

You think there's a troll problem here? You should check out alt.fan.frank-zappa. It's terrible. So far this forum is still sound enough for me to enjoy visiting it daily.

Beatlefan, as one who appreciates appropriate comment,
I can't ignore your post. Although an occasional visitor
here, I've been a member of two other interest groups
and they also seem to have gone in the direction you
are regreting.
Circus? Well I've been to a couple and they all had at
least three things in common: elephants, clowns and a
freak show. Elephants are slow, clumsy and they crap
constantly, so they are followed everywhere by people
whose job it is to clean up after them. Clowns? Wow,
how tempting it is to point and laugh! A freak show?
No comment needed.
Most people who have two or more uncooked brain cells
have probably asked themselves why EVERY method of
human communication has to be turned to trivial tripe
and vapid idiocy. Apparently Sturgeon's law holds on
the net as it does most everywhere else: "Seventy-eight
percent of everything is **** ."
But hey, let'em piss in their beer; they're the ones
who'll wonder why it tastes funny. None of the rest of
us have to drink it.
Ignore the geef (plural of goof). Kick off your shoes,
mix a drink, have another listen to a couple of year-old
projects.
It's still kind of amazing what you can do with talent
and some hard work, ain't it?

You know, it's funny...I check up on these forums about once a month and it keeps getting worse. The last time I remember seeing intelligent conversations going on was in July of last year. Since then, it has been either dead quite or infested with idiocy.
My theory is that once CEP2 comes out, things will return back to normal (i.e. how they were 2 years ago or so). Everything that can possibly be discussed about CEP1.x has been discussed. There are very few new tricks up anyone's sleeves and the only new questions are ones which could be answered with a quick search of the archives. This amounts to about 5-6 posts a day in here. As soon as the new CEP arrives, there will probably be a surge in posts (I hope). And with many people who have lots to say about the subject matter at hand (audio recording), trolls will not have as much fun posting. And the dilution factor (1 troll post/6 real posts now compared to 1 troll post/60 real posts later) should work to our advantage as well.
Beetlefan, what do you study? I graduate from U of IL in less than 6 months. Then med school next fall. Ugh...
Hopefully SOMEONE....ANYONE will start to moderate this forum. If it was truely moderated, this jerk "Latin Macho" would be barred, case closed.
This forum is very valuable to me (any many other musicians/audiophiles) and it's worth more then any book, video, or CD on recording audio. Most of us can figure out 90% to 95% of how to use recording hardware and software from reading the manuals, but forums like this one help answer the 5% uncertianty that comes up now and then.
It worries me to see someone like Beetlefan , who is one of the major posters here for years, actually say that he doesn't even want to come here much anymore because of the nonsense that's been posted. If the knowledgable contributers all leave this forum, we're screwed.
The guys with moderate experience and knowledge can always advise the beginners, (and I try to offer advise to beginners as often as possible), but its the pros who are the backbone of this forum, and if they leave, the guys with moderate knowledge can't get help with in deepth and complex issues. Which then will cause them to leave also, leaving only the beginners - and a bunch of beginners asking questions of each other won't achieve anything.
Lets try to get the moderator problem settled so we can discuss more important issues....like my post (which I'm about to upload)regarding WDM drivers.

I'm going to have to agree with the old skoolers here, its been about 4 to 5 months since i have last been as i just dont get the time to surf anymore... ((another new years resolution here I'll probably not carry out))
it seems a pity that sonic valley is not being given the support he rightly deserves. And i have to agree with others about the lack of discipline regarding the forum.
the truth is for the "not-so-good-info" that gets thru the net, theres a lot of "very good info and advice" that i still manage to extract and so because of this i will continue to return to this forum, as well as the syntrillium site that i quite literally discovered two nights ago...
Aahhh,,, I feel much better now!!!
till next time...
What the hell is going on here. How can this idiot "Latin Macho" get away with this crap. This guy is trying to put this forum out of business with these huge posts, obvoiusly designed to overload the server. He's going to try uploading a virus or something next. There has to be someone , moderator, webmaster, whoever, who can block all messages from this creep so we can get back to business.
Simply trace his ICQ and block it, period.
This piece of .... is a cyber terrorist, and we Americans (who he has repeatedly put down in some of his posts) have to wipe out terrorism, wether its killing 5000 people in NYC, or trying to screw up a forum where honest, intelligent people want to discuss technical issues.
Someone running this site has to do something...NOW. If not, I'll contact an outside authority that polices the internet and report this nonsense.

I'd definitely agree on the circus angle. Complete with bearded lady.
My initial impression of Syntrillium's forums was that they were bedecked with single-posters looking for free vox-removal plug-ins. After spending some time contributing and reading, though, I've witnessed some very interesting, in-depth discussions between a lot of experienced people. Syntrillium actually bears a presence there, too, and does a fine job of moderating. I really recommend hanging around forums.syntrillium.com.
Rabble-rousers are often bored college students who relish being able to, in effect, yell "fire" in a crowded theater without suffering any of the consequences: one of the downsides of internet anonymity. Though his syntax suggests English as a second language, Latin-Macho may well be both in college and dangerously bored.

Hi Guys,
It is true that we are moderator of this forum. The reason we initialy became a moderator was the ability to remove crack and pirate posts. When AudioForum made us an administrator, they asked us to only delete postes relating to cracks or any offensive language.
Therefore we don't feel right about removing such threads that are causing all these problems. We want to respect Pixelite (Audioforums) and their policy. Truth be told, we got frustrated about this as much as any of you guys, so we created our our fourms.syntrillium.com. You won't see such problems on our forum.
On Audioforums, I can't lock out a person or a thread. I can only delete posts. That's it. So I can remove "Latin-Macho"'s posts, but I can't prevent him from posting again. Actually, I can't remove his post since he is not posting cracks or pirate info.
We are kinda between the Rock and the Hard Place. Situations like this makes us want to remove ourselves as moderator, but we need to be moderator on this forum to be able to remove offensive and pirated posts. Chris (AudioForums Administrator) doesn't have time to monitor all the forums and edit them as needed.
I'll email Chris and see if we can come up with a better solution.

Thanks to those of you who have written to complain about recent postings here. As mentioned by Syntrillium we (Pixelite / Audioforums.com) try not to sensor posts based on peoples opinions, be they positive or negative. However we do rely on users of these forums to help point out users who may be a problem or posts which are obviously offensive or way off topic. We also strongly discourage illegal use of software in any form on these forums. We'll do our best to keep as many of these posts off as pssible without sensoring product opinions and that sort of thing. Please let me know if there are any additional problems you come across. This site is more a labor of love than a profitable business and your help is appreciated. I'd also like to thank Syntrillium for the support of this site and the job they've done with their own forum as well.
Chris
