I have the first part figured out. All I do is filter a bass cut by about 800db and that eliminates the bass. However, the beat can still be heard lightly in the background....any ideas?
PLEASE HELP! I'M GOING NUTS :-)

Unfortunately it's almost impossible to take the vocals out of a track without the mastertapes... There is one option you can try:
Goto: transform / amplify / chanelmixer.
Select the preset: vocal cut.
If, in your song, the vocals are mono and the music is stereo, this will work. But in most cases it only works a little.
Like I said, it's almost impossible...
All the best,

Thanks for the reply.
I think I used the wrong words. I meant how do I just end up with the vocals and the music gone...is this possible?
PLEASE HELP!

Aha, I see, yes I misunderstood you... Well the above might still work in the case of your music being mono and the vocals stereo... but that is probably not the case is it? No, didn't think so... Well I'm affraid there's not much you can do. Ofcourse you can try filtering as you described and if you keep working at it, you'll get a bit better results, but as far as I know it's impossible to cut away all audio except vocals... Sorry...

OK, this has been discussed in theory before. Although it was my idea, I've never tried it (not my interest area), though someone else did, and I think they said the results were fair. It's not rocket science or anything, just mathematics.
What you try is, first, enable Undo. Then use the channel mixer to cut the vocal. Next, copy the entire vocal-less track to the clipboard. Now hit undo, yielding your original track. Finally, use Mix-paste to overlap-invert the clipboard onto the track (be sure to click the Invert box on both L & R). This pasting should subtract-out all audio except the vocals that the channel mixer had cut earlier, leaving you with just those vocals.
Your vocals may not be beautiful or clean, maybe with background artifacts, but maybe it will be good enough for your needs.

Again, I would like to know where people keep getting the idea this can be done.
It always seems to come from someone who told somebody else it could be done.

Thanks for the response.
I'm sorry but the method your talking about gives me the opposite effect...I just end up with the instrumental :-(
There is only one method of doing it (so I'm told) but what the hell is it????
Thanks for the response though.

Guys, please listen to Beetlefan. It simply cannot be done, not without destroying everything else as well. If it could be done, don't you think it would be common knowledge by now, and the software to do it would be developed and marketed/plastered all over the place.

Thanks for the results. I won't give this idea any more. Sorry it didn't help. Good luck to you...

I confirmed what you all said by doing a simple test. It may depend on the material, but it certainly DIDN'T work on mine; I was left with an echoey vocal with plenty of instrumental remaining.
The whole sound of the vocal-cut preset reminded me of the Phase control on my old Fisher tube preamp: a rotary pot with which I could largely suppress vocals, though not without giving a pronounced tinny, compressed quality to the remaining audio.
Oh, well. Next time I'll test before I talk. That's all, folks.

It's cool man...after all this is the whole point of Internet forums right? It exchange/try out ideas.
I do have another bizaare question though :-) Let's say for example I wanted to record a conversation on my phone line could I record it into my PC and save it as a .wav file?

I dont know if this is even possible, but I have a recording on my computer, and it hasa great deal of static. Is there any way to quiet the static, and bring the voice up?
I really would appreaciate any ideas.
Thanks
