that's the question...and if the answer's in the help file or the book, i haven't found it yet.
i had thought all i had to do was highlight the part of the multitrack screen i wanted to mix and choose "selected waves" from the edit menu. but that only gives me an empty mixdown file.
how is this "selection" accomplished? so far i've had to mix down entire programs and then edit out everything i don't need afterwards. time consuming, frustrating, and probably needless...if i only knew what i was looking for.
any advice?

there are a couple of ways. Mute any waves you dont want by right clicking on them then selecting mute, then mix down all waves in the menu. Or you can hightlight the part of the screen you want, right click inthe track and 'select all waves in track' again mute any waves you dont want in thoses tracks you are interested in and then 'mix down selected waves' - this second option is usefull if you only want to mix down a few tracks of a large session...
hope this helped,
cp.

wonderful.
you have hit on the exact problem.
my work is in audio production rather than music creation, but yes, there are times when i want to mix just a part of a larger/longer multitrack session, without losing all the surrounding work.
i will practice with the sequence you described.
thank you.

"Now hold down 'control' on your keyboard and click each additional wave that you would like to be a part of the mixdown. Do this until all the required clips are dark green. You don't have to mute anything! "
This is fine if you only have a few waves in a track, but often, in the case of loops for example, there might be very many in one track. Therefore if you only have a few waves you dont want included from that track it is easier to mute the offending waves and then 'select all waves' in the track rather than clicking on every wave you do want...

In the words of the ancient philosopher:
"Whatever floats your boat"
(Okay, semi-ancient philosopher)
I use the 'Control Key Select' method most of the time. Sometimes I select all waves, then use the Control key to de-select the few I don't want. I use whatever method is simplest and fastest at the time.
And, Imaginator, I work as you do. Production, post-prod, etc.

Ain't CEP the greatest for doing production work. I'm in the same boat here. As well as Music production we do web and radio.
