hello. I'm just getting started learning how to multitrack with cool edit 2000. Well the first time I did it here is what happened. I inserted a wav into the first track...played it and it played fine. Then I inserted another wav into the second track and when I played them both back the level meters went wayyyyy into the red!! and this is just 2 tracks. Why does this happen? Does every file added to a track double the signal level or what??? Do you have to put the volume level way way down in order to not clip the signal?? Is there a way to make cool edit 2000 automaticly adjust the waveforms of all tracks so the signal as a whole doesn't clip? I'm a total newbie at this sort of thing and the help file doesn't say anothing about this particular problem that I could find.

If you have two wave's that are loud and you mix them together (I mean play them both at the same time) the result could be clipping, yes. But you state it as if the two waves together blast the devil out of his hole - this might be some other problem. Anyway, what I would do is just change the volume of each track individually until I come up with acceptable levels. This can not be done automatically.

Actually Hanz, N-Track Studio has a setting that will lower volumes as new tracks are recorded to prevent clipping. Nice feature.
