i am considering buying a lexicon mpx-1, but was wondering how the good reverbplugins (tc native reverb and waves renesaince reverb and the likes of these) are on scale with the lexicon mpx range, like you have the mpx-100 , mpx-200 , mpx-550 and the mpx-1 to which of these do the good reverbplugins compare ???
i think that the mpx-100 is about the same quality of the reverb plugins.

what's your opinion about this?

I can tell you from experience that the Waves Trueverb and TC Native reverb are both awesome. Some people swear by hardware reverbs, but I haven't had anything yet that I couldn't do with software reverbs. There is also a free one called FreeVerb. It very nice. It's comparable to plugins that you would pay for. Here's a link to that: http://www.sinusweb.de/ You should check out some of these software reverbs before you shell out the cash for a hardware unit. If you don't think they cut it, then go for a Lexicon. They're generally considered one of the best reverbs.

Also, check out the TC M-One. I was strictly a lexicon user for years, and felt that there was no other reverb but Lexicon. After a few people told me to listen to TC I did a comparison. I was blown away at how much better the M-One sounded over the MPX-500. The tails in particular are just so much more natuaral on the M-One.
As far as plugins, I'm sure there are some good ones by now, though they are CPU hogs. In addition to my TC and Lexicons, I run a TC Powercore DSP card that has a couple of awesome reverbs, and I can run multiple instances of each, plus a bunch of other stuff (EQ's, Limiters, Compressors, Finalizer, Synths, etc.) all without taxing my CPU. So have a look at that while your deciding.
Cheers, RD

I'll second that motion, the M-One XL is an incredible unit. The reverbs are beautiful and the routing options are the most versatile I've seen yet, not to mention the de-esser, choruses, compressor, limiter, etc. I just bought it myself after deciding between the Lexicon MPX-1 and the TC Electronic M-One XL.
IMHO you get more for your money with the M-One XL.

I'm interested in the M-One XL too but it appears to be geared towards live sound use. Is it quiet enough for the studio?

well the reason i am thinking about the mpx-1 is because i wanted to buy the best quality reverb i can buy with the money i have, so the thing is that i am not considering the xl because i second that it is a good machine but not better than the mpx-1 in my opinion, i am only thinking of models above the mpx-1 maybe like the tc fireworx but that's the max i can pay so i thought that the mpx1 would be quite affordable and not a good , but a great reverb at the same time. so i'm not dissing the m-1 xl not at al but it's just not what i am looking for.

there is no question that the m-one xl is quiet enough for studio use.i use it in my studio all the time. just because something is designed for 'live' applications doesn't mean that the manufacturer is going to skimp on sound quality and all the rest of it, especially someone like TC.

stomp boxes are another story, though...

I have the M-one and it is superior in quality to any of the reverb plug ins I use. Especially in the low-mid range frequencies.

Plugins tend to focus on upper frequency repeats which are brassy or tinny sounding. Hardware offers a more lush and rich sound across the sound spectrum in my opinion.

I use both however but rely more on the hardware.

I have plug in reverbs and a Sony DPS-V55 four channel reverb unit. I will use the Sony much more often than plug in reverbs. I simply sounds better to me. I still use a Lexicon LXP-1 in my band rack for all the vocals and my sax. It still sounds great.

Hi, I am thinking about getting a TC M300. Does anyone know how this one sounds compared to its bigger brother M-one (XL)?
