I'm down to a couple of good candidates for new active nearfield monitors. Yes, I've read recent threads, and they're informative, but it doesn't seem many people are comparing these two. How is everyone's experience with them -- if you know them both -- and what else can you recommend in the $1000-1500 per pair price range? Thanks much.

We compared the V8's to the Mackies and went with the Mackies. It was a VERY tough decision, so I would say you really can't go wrong with either one.
We also ended up buying a Blue Sky system, specifically for the low end (this was just before Mackie announced their sub) - they sound very similar to Mackies (maybe a bit 'smoother' sounding on the high end?) and are an absolute pleasure to mix on. They fit easily into that price range as well - you get the whole shebang, sub + 2 mains with 6.5" woof, for around $1300.

Obverall reviews I read on the net I found KRK's V8 behind mackies and other moniotrs in the same price range. I've done a lot of searching and reading, because I was buying a pair of active's for my personal studio home.
My price range was the same between 1000-1500$ for a pair. At the end I went for Dynaudio BM6A couse they were in all reviews somwhere in first positions. And I aslo had a nice reference from a friend who usese them in studio. I did't have any chance to listean any of monitors I had in my choice becouse I live in a cuntry where there just isn't any store that I could listen to a specific model... So I went for DYNAUDIO and now I have them and they play realy fantastic. Can't say though if they play better then Mackies' HR842 or KRK's V8 or Genelec 1031's or any other... I bought them on basis of all reviews I read...
regard. Hope I helped you a little?

What did you pay for the Dynaudio monitors? I see they're pretty expensive, and I haven't seen them on eBay.
BTW...how would you say the Dynaudios compare to the Mackie HR824 or KRK V8, if you've heard them?
Thanks for your time.

Helo!
I payed for my pair of Dynaudio BM6A's arround 1300$ ... I bought them in Germany. A friend smuglled them for me trough the national board in Slovenia without paying any import taxes etc.
About comparing them do these two models. I havent yet listen to mackies bit I have listen to KRK V8's as my frind has them in studio. I would say that KRK's play a bit louder but do not know if that is becaouse he has passives an alesis amplifier for them. Maybe this is why thay play louder do not know.
But overall sound of Dynaudio im much more cleaner. The mids, botooms and high's are muxh more intense looking troughout all frequency range. I do good mixes on dynaudio as same as he does on KRK's http://www.audioforums.com/forums/smile.gif.
So i think go for the one's that you can get more cheaper.

Mackies all the way in my opinion. I have mixed on both and the reality of it is that I do not get fatigued as fast on the Mackies. They are not as bright in the high end. You might want to look into the Mackie HR624s, as they are less expensive but I feel they are pleanty accurate. I am actually moving my 824s out of my studio and replacing them with 624s. (Not selling the 824s mind you, I just want to use them for my Keyboard monitors.)

Musicpro I certainly do not want to confuse this issue or make this more complicated but you really should try to hear a pair of ADAM's P11-A's before making the leap.
They are about $200 more than Mackie or KRK's but I have no doubt you think they worth it. At least everyone else that has made this comparison things so. http://www.audioforums.com/forums/smile.gif
I definitely do not recommend the Mackies. I found they really do not translate very well and the bottom end is to flabby in my opinion.
I can't say enough how important it is to have speakers you can trust. In my experience the better your signal chain gets, the more you realize how important it is to get the best speakers you can possibly afford.
It is amazing to me that people will spend $2000 on a great sounding mic pre or $1500 on a nice mic and then cheap out on $300 speakers.
But, do some research on the ADAMs, do your own listening and I would get each of these in your own studio before making a decision.

hmmm weird, so lets call this a question of taste, but here in the netherlands both dynaudio and mackies are seen as the top of the range when it comes to nearfield actife affordable monitors and i am content with both brands!
can't judge the adam's have only heard one of them , but the mackies are not at all "flabby" in my opinion.
