I have a PA system that I rent and I needed some fairly inexpensive mics to go with it. I didn't want my good stuff going out the door so I bought a Rode NT1 and a CAD GXL2400 along with four CAD CM17 small condensers and four Samson S11 dynamics.

The CAD was $69 with a shock mount. I now use it for female vocals, acoustic guitar and my sax and I have run live sound at five bluegrass festivals last summer with it as the center vocal mic. Warm, clean and clear and unbelievable quality for the money.

The CAD CM17 small condensers were also $69 each and now I use them for live sound on mandolin, fiddle, banjo and acoustic guitar. I have one live CD getting national airplay using these mics.

The Samson S11 mics were three for $75 and after comparing them to the 58/57's my band (classic rock) usually uses, we have started using the el cheapo Samson's. Warmer, better frequency response and clarity. The bad news is the handling noise is terrible but since we leave them on stands it's not an issue.

We did a festival in August with a 20,000 watt sound system and a couple of thousand folks in attendance and the sound guy insisted on using a 58 on our guitar player's voice and I insisted on using the Samson on mine (we share lead vocals). After the gig, the sound guy was totally impressed with the Samson sound compared to the 58.

Where did you find those CAD CM17 for $69? I'd like to look into those and get some info about them. Also has anyone tried the Audio Technica Pro 37R's?
