hi mates,

i'm trying to definitevly realize if and how the screen-generated magnetic field can influence sound recording. i read somewhere about LCD/TFT screens being the *definitive choice* because traditional tube monitors could add unwanted noises to the input signal (notice that i'm NOT talkin about the output signal being affected). i don't truly know how (and if) this statement is true...
any ideas or experiences to share?

thank you all,

One thing it can do is cause noise when recording a guitar having a single coil pickup. You can overcome it by moving away, finding the correct angle of guitar vs. screen, or just turning off the monitor while recording.

ANY kind of EM (electromagnetic) interferance can create audible noise in a signal path. Power cables running next to audio cables can pick up a 60hz hum. Rheostat light fixtures can create hum, so can certain flourescent fixtures (the ballast outputs EM noise).

It's not just single-coils either - it applies to humbuckers as well. Standing at right angles will kill the interference (or as said turn off the monitor or stand in another room).
