I currently have all of my music equipment in a spare bedroom. Its not "acoustically correct" and doenst have a booth of any kind. Its just a simple little room with a pc. I am planning to take over a room in my basement which is now a utility room and make it my music room. I will be putting down a 2" floor to get off the concrete and will put up walls where there is concrete. I plan to pre-wire for everything I can think of - cat5, cable tv, phone, tons of electric outlets, etc.

Any other sugestions? Should I also wire for xlr, 1/4" patches? What should I put on/in the walls, ceiling and floor to help with sound? I dont want to spend a fortune, but do want to do a decent job. Any advice would be appreciated.

This is a fairly small room (maybe 12X12), so no room for a booth.

One more thing. Tell me if I am crazy...

The utility room currently also houses my furnace and hot water heater. I plan to partition them off with an insulated wall. Hopefully, that will block the noise.

Any advice on how to really seal that noise off? I am going to have a friend who is an HVAC guy look it over to make sure I am ok blocking that stuff in.
