hi there! im taking an audio engineering course and i got this strange idea of connecting the ssl g series to a mackie hdr, so i can use the transport region of the console to control the hdr.
the console doesnt have any midi/cv or any standards recognised by the hdr.
and i know that mackie provides a transport controller for the hdr, BUT i want to do it the hard way and use the SSL to control it
any ideas, hints, tips welcome!!

Tough call. I'm not sure but I think its not possible because that capability was intended for 24" multitrack tape machines. And also, If I'm wrong, you still have to make sure the console has the capability actually implemented. Most of them have the transport buttons, but as far as I understand, that capability is optional and is pretty expensive to add on, and most studios just prefer to stick with a dedicated transport for the tape machine. My school has that very same console in one of its studios, and it also has the transport section, but its not beign used because it lacks that module or whatever. I think U'll be better of with mackie's than try to figure out how to work that.

I am pretty sure it is possible, because their is a device that you can buy that allows the SSL to control pro tools. I believe it converts SSL's machine messages in to MIDI Sync data, and allows the SSL to control the start and stop time of the track. Then You can use smpte to sync the ssl to the Mackie hd recorder.
