I'm going crazy with this!!! My Roland XP-60 keyboard can receive patch changes in patch mode, but I can't change the sounds to coorespond with the tracks when in sequencer mode. I'm using Sonar on Windows-XP, and I have a simple Computer to Keyboard MIDI setup. I am not in GM mode. Oddly, when I select drums, those patch changes works regardless of the mode the XP-60 is in.
I am not in GM mode and I DID set up the bank numbers as per instructions in the "instrument definitions" section of Sonar. I used the bank numbers as listed by Roland in the supplemental material.
Please help???

Hello, i'm in the same problem, but "it's better two than one" http://www.audioforums.com/forums/wink.gif
There must be some kind of file that store the program (patch) configuration on each midi or svq sequence. so that you don't have to be recalling patch names every time you just turned on the xp60
I own an Xp-10 now and it's very easy to setup MIDI modes, you simply go to 'performance' menu, and you can set up a patch for every channel/part later you store that new performance and it will be ready to be recalled whenever, I wonder if Xp-60 can do the same.
I sent the following message to roland.co.uk with alistrj@roland.co.uk
but i just get an mail error message:

i want to know how you can record the "patch" configuration in a song, I
mean ch1 for piano ch2 for bass .... ch 16 for warm pad
every time i store a song in the disk, it asks for 2 possibilities "song
only" or "song + sounds" i have tried them both but none stores the sounds,
once i load it again everything sounds in piano, (except the drum ch 10)
Am i omiiting any step?
i want help, i'm disappointed for this (little) point.
mega-Thanks a lot

Hope this helps a little...

If you're sending prog changes from the MIDI sequencer on your computer, the XP-60 should be in Performance mode, NOT Sequencer mode.
(Just about any of the Perf's in Preset A should be a good starting point.) I assume the Bank Select MSB/LSB you're sending from the seq. program are 80/0 for the User Bank, 81/0 through 3 for Presets A-B-C & GM, and if you have exp. cards installed, 84/0 through 7? (Check pg. 214 of your XP-60 manual.)
