Any casio keyboard...spend the rest of your money on beer!!!!
haha actually,
I already own a casio, I buy any cheap keyboard, people have lying around and just sample the sounds http://www.audioforums.com/forums/smile.gif
i heard the access, is really for proper dance music. not really an electro/IDM machine?

and i say 'ha ha!' to your question - the virus could be for anything from rock to ambient to folk, if you know how to use it. it depends on if you want to define the genre or have the genre define you, as well.
are you looking more for 'real', organic sounds or synthetic ones?
well i loveee FM sounds
the Yamaha FS1r and FM7 can cover those,
I looking for some nice drones, pads etc..
i have enough "lead" synths.
IDM= autechre, funkstorung, fizzarum, plaid or those kinda bands www.mp3.com/apneaproject (http://www.mp3.com/apneaproject) is my stuff, if you want an idea.
So i was thinking about getting
a wavestation
yamaha FS1r
and an Sh-101
I think that'll cover all base's and then when the moneys might the modular?
whatcha think?

I think those would cover it, yes. I will say this though - the Virus has some of THE most fantastic sounding pads/drones I've ever heard. They're absolutely beautiful and, personally, I think they put those others to shame, especially the FS1R, which I owned for awhile. I really like the Wavestation, but you may be able to find the older Virus A if you're patient and look hard enough. It'll probably cost you a bit more, but - well, I would just check out the Virus to be sure you don't REALLY like it! I just cannot say enough good things about it and, believe me, i listen to ALOT of synths. The SH-101 is great for basses, sound effects and leads - one of our mainstays, actually.
thanks mang,
do you have any other recomendations?

I'm not familiar with that (I'm more of a rock n' roll boy, though recently I've been getting into more electronic things), but I checked out your stuff, and I must say it's pretty cool. I like the contrast in Steven, especially, with the purposeful melody and the erratic, malfunctioning percussion. Seems it'd be kinda hard to boogie to, though http://www.audioforums.com/forums/eek.gif.

hey thanks for the compliment.
yeh its not really dance music, its more experimental, theres alot of cross-over with hip-hop as of late (prefuse73 etc..)
which is quite dancey, as is aphex twin and such. the dancey IDM tends to be elctro kinda stuff.
I'm a ex-rock and roller myself, i just got fed up with the pub circuits and attitude's between clubs and bands.
I've always like ambient stuff, and only stumbled acorss IDM a couple years back.
i love messed up beats and really beautiful film like melodys. adding them together is just great..
I hear in in "nu-metal" sometimes.. like limb bizkit really lush soft melodies and rocking drums. good stuff just a shame that idiot of a singer has to bust it.

Hmm - do you use virtual synths at all? I particularly like the FM7 and Absynth - great drones/pads and tons of other possibilities..
As for other hardware synths - I don't know if there's really anything else in the lower price ranges - wait, the Korg MS2000 was pretty cool and I think they're blowing them out. Lots of knobs and a step sequencer built in. The technique I favor most, though is to get pretty much any decent sounding synth and put it through something like a Digitech Vocalist (or any of their Vocalist series, which you can find on Ebay for $100 - $200) which will harmonize parts and create incredible sounding pads from even the cheesiest mono synth. Pop that all thru a decent FX unit and you're golden.
As far as other synths go, I really like ones from Studio Electronics, Jomox, Novation (the Nova and Supernova are fabulous!) and Waldorf. Technosaurus also makes some incredible modular synths...
