I am thinking of getting a POD pro. I am trying to find out the differeence between smaller POD2.0 and the pro. Does anyone know what's the major difference between the 2 is? iKnow the price is twice. I played on it at guitarcenter. No one could give me a good explanation as to why it's different. Will this gadget really ehance my home studio recroding for my guitar?
Is there anything better in terms of Rack effects? Anything from Rocktron? I am looking for some really neat sounds...like sounds that are used in "YES" "big generator album" or something similar. Nice and rich and warm.
I will appreciate the suggestions. Thanks http://www.audioforums.com/forums/wink.gif

Well in terms of sound there is no difference. Every sound you can get on the POD Pro, you can get on the POD. The difference is mainly in the input and output options. The POD Pro has a normal guitar input on the front but also has a line input on the back. it has both 1/4" and xlr outputs as well as a dry guitar output. You can run it in two modes. In studio mode the 1/4" connections are -10 unbalanced outputs and the xlr connections are +4 balanced outputs both with the A.I.R. modeling. In live mode the 1/4" connections don't have the A.I.R. modeling so you can hook them up to your power amp or head, and the xlr connections have all the modeling to go direct through the PA. The POD Pro also has both SPDIF and AESEBU digital outputs with word clock input. And finally the POD Pro has a stereo FX loop.
And obvoisly the POD Pro is rackmount. Which is the main reason I traded my POD for a Pro, but I actually find myself using alot of the options. Especially the live mode. Going direct is so much easier than micing the cab, you never have to worry if they have good mics or not.

Thanks Corn!
So you would recommend that I get the pro instead? I am using it only for home recording and not any live jigs. Also, the S/PDIF seems to be a plus. Also, does the pro give you enough options to make your own sounds? And what exactly does the stereo loop do? Can I get 2 outputs out of the Pro and feed it into my sound card? Does it give stereo outs? For example will it give any stereo chorus?
Thanks http://www.audioforums.com/forums/biggrin.gif

Hello.. I bought both the POD PRO and the BASS POD PRO. I love them both. I bought these over the 2.0 versions because of the outputs and them being rack mountable.
So far I record everything via SPDIF and they sound great. I have not attempted to use the AIR function yet but I certainly will. I love the distorted tones on the guitar pod but so far I have been unimpressed with the clean tones. If anyone has any good patches, I would love to try them.
Finally, the effects. Well I am disapointed in the effects. I don't think any of them are very strong. Soundiver makes things much easier to adjust but the effects are just weak in my opinion. I end up effecting everything after it's been recorded with plug-ins.
I love these pods, it makes recording much easier and they sound great recorded!

Hey. The stereo fx loop is there so you can send the sound out of the POD to other fx and then back into the POD. Both PODs are stereo. It will give stereo chorus.
The SPDIF output is great for recording. If you're using it Easyjoey, then you are using the A.I.R. emulation. As far as good clean tones I find it varys a lot depending on what guitar I'm using. I get some great clean tones with my Tele.
As far as the fx go they are very basic but it's not meant to be an fx unit. Its an amp emulator/ preamp. And while the fx are very basic they are way better than the fx that most amps have.
If you're looking for fx the Line6 Echo pro or Filter pro are awesome.
