I need a good basic keyboard with midi. Don't want to spend much on it. It doesn't have to be full keyboard just something to use with Reason & Rebirth.

Do you need it to have sounds? Does your computer have a USB port? What kind of computer are you using it with? How many keys would you like on it?

All very important questions...

Dell XPS P3 1000Mhz 384 Rambus Ram, USB, 220 gigs on 4 hard drives/ I would be using it with Rebirth And Reason. Keys at least 3 Octaves. Not too large. Sounds, I guess not, I'll leave that up to the software. I have a midi port. Trying to use Reason I'm not used to plugging in notes to play, I need a keyboard. I know theres differences in the types of keyboards but I think the software (Reason)can handle it. Not sure what Polyphonic means though. I'm no musician but I did play an accordian was a kid and a Sax in High School so I can read music but I'm just not used to using software to create it. I think I would feel more comfortable with a keyboard starting off. Thanks

I would recommend the Midiman Keystation 49 or 61's - they plug directly into the USB port (no midi interface needed...), work well and aren't too expensive. They have this other cool one out now, too, but I think it only has 25 keys. What it has that's so cool is 8 knobs that you can use to control Rebirth and Reason - very snazzy.

How much is 'too much'? These are all in the $125 - $200 range. if you're looking cheaper, just go grab some el-cheapo yamaha or casio keyboard that has a midi output - they'll work just as well as any other. You'll need a midi interface with one of them, though..

The 25 key is called the Midiman Oxygen 8. It is brilliantly designed and I use it with NI B4, Reaktor 3.0 and Reason. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't need a large controller--it saves lots of space!
Not to mention that I only paid $139 USD for it!
