Hi, I'm a guitar player and I'm looking for a headphone to monitor my recordings. These recordings are made in PC with a SBLive. The problem is that it cannot be a PRO headphone since I'm bit broken and things here in Brazil sometimes cost 3x or 4x the price you pay in USA - especially after the WTC attack. So, the question is: what's the best headphone in the price range of US$50-US$100?
By "the best" I mean a headphone with a response as flat as possible with the capability to support "tons" of volume - or, at least, the best relationship among these factors.
Any help will be appreciated,
Felipe.

DO NOT mix with headphones if you can help it. Your mixes will not translate well to stereo systems. Having said that, if you are merely trying to get ideas down, or maybe have to record at very low volume, then check out some Sennheiser cans on ebay.

Grado SR60
About $70 US, Never owned them but have read and heard many great reviews.
I believe you sacrifice long hours of comfort for good sound with this model.

I will also second Sennheiser as well. I own a pair HD200 not bad at all, but they are closed headphones.

What do you know about AKG k141m? It's described in musiciansfriend.com as being "The most widely used headphones in U.S. studios!"; is it true?Anyway, thx for your answers,
Felipe.

AKG K240 Studio. Very nice headphones, though not perfect for, say, recording vocals, as they are semi-open design...
Sony MDR V-600. Decent headphones, decent price. $130...

Yeah, buy some Sony MDR-V600. Around $100.00 at Guitar Center. Very Nice....
any suggestions for wireless headphones?
what up brazil,
Go with the sony MDR, I have the MDR v900 and they may cost a bit more than the 600's but truthfully the 600's are as good as mine and that will save you fifty bucks. For price/quality ratio you can't go wrong with them!

There are different AKG K-240s.
The best are the K-240DFs, but you see the cheaper K-240Ms around a lot.
These are probably out of his price range and I personally think these are the cheapest-looking $280 headphones I've ever seen anyway. I swear, they look like $19.99 K-Mart items.
I made the mistake of getting a pair before discovering that they are open, therefore rendering them stone useless for monitoring your vocal recording.
I agree that headphones - even supposedly good ones like my AKG K-240DFs - are worthless for mixdown monitoring. I am going to bite the bullet and buy some active monitors in the next couple of weeks.

I mixed/master some stuff with headphones, and the result was very low guitar level, very high bottom end level.
But for monitoring you can use any headphones, that can produce sound. I think you record and play by yourself, and that's why you need headphones. And maybe your AMP is in the same room with your DAW....
I vote for some low end SONY! There are some at about 75-80$
