Unfortunately i blew up my small Celestion speakers which, obviously weren't made for the heavy feedback i got in reaktor. Now i need some new ones.
I haven't really bought any dedicated monitors but am planning to do so. But there are so many brands to choose from and i might prefer to buy some good second hands or some affordable new ones. However i would really appreciate if people could give some feedback on what they use and why they choose their monitors. Personally i do minimal electronic music (duh) and love clarity and a good low respons. i tend to have a lot of sphreric elements in there which, i think, might be served by monitors with a wide sweet spot.
my budget can't do much more than $600..
thoughts, anyone?

Yorkville YSM1's..... $250 per pair....
Getting very popular... I hate to say it, cause I love the Yamaha NS-10's... but I think these Yorkvilles are gonna be the new NS-10's.... Everyone is talking about 'em... and it seems now most "big" studio's have a pair set up somewhere or another....
But, If it were me, I would try and find a used pair of NS-10's... cause I love 'em so much....
For your scenario, stick with the Yorkvilles....or something similar..

Without a doubt buy JBL LSR25P. About $560 for pair, they blow any monitors in the $600- $1200 range.
hello,
i am also in the market for new monitors, i have £300 to burn and that has to include the speakers and the amp. or active monitors.
thankyou for your help in advance..
i make electronica (autechre, funksotrung) stuff, but also record alot of stringed instruments and vocals.. i do everyhting really. i thought spirit absolute zero's and a sampson amp?

hmm, the spirit absolute zero's sound not so good to be honest. These are one of the few i heard but i wasn't enthusiastic about them. look for absolute2's or 3's, much flatter and richer display.
I have been looking at the alesis M1 active's, these are getting some really nice reviews. anybody who has a pair of these? I found that the advantafe of active monitors is that you don't need an amp to power the speakers. Amps are quite important with small monitors because they influence the sound, obviously..

Check out the Event 20/20...totally cool!
I second the vote for the JBL LSR 25P's.

I purchased my pair of Tannoy Reveals after considering Genelec1029a's, KRK V8's, Roland D90's, and NS10m's. The Reveals were, quite simply, the best bang for the buck.
For me, the midrange response was right-on. The lows were even, and the highs were smooth. There's plenty of clean power, of course, as well.
Asthetically, they're the sharpest looking of the bunch(they look fantastic in my facility). My wife loves the way they look and that certainly dosen't hurt matters any.
I use MonsterCable Studiolink500 series. Because I operate a Roland VS studio currently, the cables terminate with RCA connectors. They are 1/4in. at the speaker jack.
The Alesis M1's sounded like toys, the Events were nice, and I haven't heard the JBL's mentioned.
Hope this helps,
T. Alan

Hi everyone,
for me is olny the Genelec 1030 the right choice.
It cost a little more (about 2400 DM a pair) and sound much more better than all other midprice monitors I know right know!
The 1030 are test winner in german magazine “keyboards” last month.
kind regards
