I have a small studio at home utilizing a BR-8 for rough ideas, and Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 for more advanced stuff.

I currently use a cheap Casio keyboard as a controller, and a Yamaha MU-50 as a sound module. I'd like to expand the sound possibilities beyond what the MU50 offers.

Originally I posted asking about a JV-1010, which I demo'd today and really liked. I plan on getting a seperate controller due to my dislike of the Casio. Now this brings up a few thoughts, if you'll bear with me. I don't want to buy something today, and need to get a "better" unit in a few months.

1. Get the JV-1010 which is expandable and a midi controller.

2. Get an XP-30.

3. Get a JV-1080 and a seperate controller.

Option 3 costs more than option 2, while option 1 costs less. Option 1 would allow me to get the sound module now, and the controller later, as long as I don't mind using the Casio as a controller.

Any ideas here? I'm sort of as a loss as to which option to go with.

Thanks.

What a easy Choice!
Of course you should choose XP-30.
It has one more expansion slots than JV1010, And it's a good keyboard for home or live use.

I owned a XP-30 and i did like it. What i really liked was the controler section. nice velocity sensitivity and aftertouch which works nicely. you need to like the roland pitch "stick"... most midi controllers aren't as decent as this one.

i would definately go for the XP-30 if you're looking for the jv sounds..

best,
