I built a cheap and awesome digital recording setup.
Here it is:
Audiophile 2496 $140 (music123.com)
--One call saved me 10 bucks off their
149.95 price.
Eurorack UB1202 $99
All cables $30
Two mic stands $35
3 Behringer xm8500 mics $60
Zoom MRT-3 drum machine $99
--I'm probably going to return the drum
machine and use computer software for
beats.
Already had computer.
Using my old altec lansing acs54 5-piece speaker system.
Anyhow..I have that hated speaker pop, hiss..static?? Whatever you call it , I don't know.
It only happens on my recorded material. If I play an mp3, the sound is clean.
It's like these little tiny pops (like the sound when you rub your feet on a carpet and then touch metal) all through out the recording..what is it ?

Tell us what kind of CPU and motherboard your computer has.

Motherboard: ECS K7S5A
CPU: AMD Thunderbird 1.33Ghz
Memory: Crucial 256MB
I have three 19 inch monitors on my desk. I wonder if there is any EMI from them?
Would it have anything to do with how close the cables are to monitors or other equiptment?
Thanks in advance!

Hmmmm... that mobo, being SiS chipset, generally is reported to work great in a budget DAW...
In the windows display properties, do you have the "show window contents while dragging" option enabled?
This has been known to induce popping and crackling while moving the mouse around and pulling down/navigating menu screens. I had to turn it off on my DAW (P4, Asus P4T-E rambus mobo , Aardvark DP24/96) because it did that phenominon pretty badly on mine, but runs perfectly quiet with that option disabled... I'm even getting away with running a USB mouse too.

Thanks for getting back to me. I do not have that option checked. I never had either.
I go have a USB mouse and USB UPS supply.
When I had my speaker plugged into the motherboard..you could here every move of the mouse.
I would like to know technically what causes this.
When I record..If I simply press record..but do not talk,sing..play..just let it record silence..there is no popping/clicking.
Also, I had to return my mixer today for exchange because it came in damaged. It worked..but the darn thing wobbled like a table with a short leg because the actual metal frame of the mixer was warped on one end. Wierd?
I think it's just a fluke with the manufacturer. I don't know, I certainly wasn't going to keep it.
So at this point, I can't try new things since ..no mixer. I'll probably be back with this topic again!
Thanks!

Hmmmm....
I don't know much about the specific sound card your using, but I know that with my Aardvark DP 2496, I had to get rid of all my USB devices to stop dropouts and system lockups from occurring when I was recording in Sonar 2. I also have had to disable all my PCI devices (PCI 10/100 network card) when recording too, or I get the same crackling noise you're describing. I can keep it physically installed, I just have to disable it in the hardware manager.
I would also suggest you take a look at your latency settings and drivers. As I don't know the specifics of your sound card, I cannot provide info as to the latest driver set or optimal latency settings for it.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

Ya I think that board incorporates USB 1 as well. get rid of the USB mouse for starters.
What are you using to record?
Try increasing latency in the delta control panel found in windows control panel. try lowering your volume too
