Do I have to buy XP Professional for Hyper Threading as XP Home doesn't
support dual processors if it works in the same way??

Cheers.

Bob.

isn't hyperthreading a single processor function?

Hyper Threading processors are seen as Dual processors in the bios when booting.I know that XP home doesn't support Dual Processors.

I DONT think hyper threading has anything to do with phisical dual processors.
i may be wrong and may be.but from what i've been reading and reading about HT,is pricisely does not use dual phiscal processors.
it acts like a multi processor in motion in a single processor for example.thats what the benefit is and thats why its becoming famous.doing 2 or 3 things at one time with a single processor.
its good for multi processing envirement, like in pro audio for example,we should benefit from it whatever the logic says in this case.how much and is it worth it?that,i dont know yet.

It does essentially appear as two processors to the OS but it does run under XP home. It's not really the same as having dual cpu cores on one chip or a dual CPU system but it can still provide some benefits. I've seen results of up to a 20% performance gain on some video applications but haven't seen any info related to benefits for any audio apps yet.
