I have a friend who bought a M-Audio Quattro then later bought the Omni I/O for the preamps. I helped him hook up the Omni but he was under the impression that it would now have 8 ins/ 8 outs. I'm under the impression that the Omni just takes over the inputs that the Quattro has, thus he'd have 4 ins/ 4 outs still. Which one is correct? Anyone ever had this setup?

I'm not sure I know the answer here, but I think I know where you can look. The quattro has an applet called M AUDIO USB ASIO Control Panel that lets you pick from a drop down list called Available Channel Sets. The default selection I believe reads "Channels 1-4 in 1-4 out". Check this list with the Omni hooked up to the Quattro and see if there are other options available.
Hope this helps.

I just looked and the max was 4ins/4outs from that menu. So it looks like it just adds more routing and preamps to the channels of the Quattro. I emailed Midiman but since its the holidays, they haven't gotten back to me yet. I'll let you guys know when they let me know. Thanks for the tip...
The Quattro is a 4in 4out device through USB.
The Omni I/O is a 4in 4 out device through a PCI card (well, 6 is you are counting S/PDIF)
The Great thing about the Omni I/O is that it allows you to connect alot of devices to the unit and send it all direct to the monitor out or headphone. But, you can only send 4 streams in and out.
You are getting 8 streams but, there in AND out. 24/48x8 is the max load that USB 1.1 can hold.
If you want an 8 in 8 out device from an external sound card you are going to have to look at USB 2.0 or Firewire.
NAMM is comming soon and is when alot of the sound card makers are introducing there new products. I would keep an eye on something like harmony-central.com for new items released.
