Low cost pro/semi pro cards

Hi all,
i'm a newbie here, i would like to have recommendations on what pro/semi pro soundcards that have a good price/performance ratio.

Currently i use an audigy and it sucks. I keep getting audio dropouts with Sonar 3. I use softsynth (edirol vsc, sfz, sampletank) a lot.

I've read and considering echo miamidi. But i heard that it often has troubles with pc configuration. I use AthlonXP 1600+, Epox 8KHA+, will it be a trouble if I use miamidi?

I am using M Audio Omni studio and like the results. Good price vs. perfomance and you get some fairly decent mic pres with it.
Check other threads here. there are dozens of cards out there and just as many opinions about which ones are worth it.
Just my $.02.
