I'm try to diable write caching on my XP system, but when I go to the properties of the hard drives, and go to "policies", it is cheched "optimize for performance" - and is greyed out so I can't change it. I have a Promise Ultra 133 Tx2 installed, which may be the reason. I need to disable write cache so I can get gigastudio to work better. Any thoughts on how to proceed? Thanks. JT

That's interesting, I just went through the exact same thing with my Maxtor ATA133 I/O card (which is actually the Promise TX2 under Maxtor's name). When I got a brand new I/O card driver from Maxtor, it had the option to "ignore" write caching - even though the disk options themselves were still grayed out. So I would think that you could get a new driver for the Promise too. In case it relates, the driver version I have is 2.0.50.42
I did not notice much difference, but my disk system is benchmarking a bit higher. NOTE: If you try to use the Maxtor driver, their web link, that states the 2.0.50.42 actually downloads the previous version. I had to argue this with tech support until they emailed me the right one.
