I think this should be a easy one for the pro's...here goes.

Basiclly, I have two monitors (speakers) in use on my PC, both pre amped, but with out a volume control knob (so I have to keep changing it in the PC settings)

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on a audio interface (i think) to get what will allow me to run the sound from my PC into the audio interface meanwhile allowing me to adjust the volume to the pair of monitors using a knob on the interface....(I hope that makes sense).

Also, would the interface allow me to run my DJ mixer into it so I could record onto the PC, and also have a XLR jack so I can plug a stand alone mic into it and record too?

Its kinda hard to explain, but Im sure someone will know what Im after!

Thanks.

Glad you made it. Welcome.

Let me help by clarifying your requirements and asking a few more questions.

Feature Requirements: Stereo Line In, XLR Mic In, Volume control on box.
Usage: record DJ mixing to PC and some vocal/instrument recording.

You have three options for connection: USB, Firewire, PCI w/ breakout box.
Any preference or restrictions for using any of these?
(Some devices are fussy about the firewire controller chip; I've heard some have issues if its not a TexasInstrumets chip.)

What is your budget range?

Thats exactly what I need.

Im not bothered if its Firewire or USB. not to keen on PCI though.

My budget is £100

I've seen this...

Would this cut it?

The Lexicon is probably ok but I think one mic input and no phantom power is going to frustrate you some time down the line.

At your stage in the game I would say get an M-Audio Fast track pro.

It has all the connections you need and then some but most of all it is a very robust unit both for build but also electronically/computerwise.

How easy and well (or if at all!) Audio Interfaces work with any particular computer is almost 100% down to the drivers. These are software instructions written by the makers of the AI and tell it how to interact with the pc. M-A's drivers are universally recognised as some of the most solid and reliable in the buisiness.

Yes I KNOW it is 30quid over budget but you won't be disappointed.

Dave.
