I've recently been looking into getting my music licensed so I've been visiting different forums to gain knowledge. I've realized there aren't very many threads and posts about licensing music which confused me since it is such a huge business!!! Any thoughts on that??

Also, does anyone have suggestions on which library to place music with? There are tons of libraries out there and I'd like some feedback on who might be a good one to work with.

And to increase my knowledge about music licensing, what are the best resources to use? I read a newsletter earlier today which made music licensing sound even more interesting ( therealmusicproject.com/newsletter ) but I'd like more info so if anyone can point me in the right direction, I would be grateful!!! Thanks!

There's a book called something like "Everything you every wanted to know about the music business" it talks about licensing.

I license my music. I use music libraries. Not to be a jerk, but the reason people don't talk about it is because those in the know, don't want you to know because then there is more competition in an already tight market space. If your music and my music are on the same Library CD or catalog then it means you might get the gig before me and make the money I might have made. Dog eat dog.

I will tell you that there are people having success with Taxi getting their music placed. I will also tell you that you need a good lawyer that specializes in licensing to make sure any deals that you get are not going to screw you.

Something else to consider - to make a living with music placements via licensing you will need at least 100 songs per year available (placed with libraries) figure only about 20% of your songs will be accepted.

Good luck.

PS - there are some good posts on gearslutz by those in the know that will lead you down the right path.
