I would appreciate any help on this one.
I have 2 Delta 1010 cards, S/PDIF sync, Sonar 1. I have a crackling noise when I record that I cannot get to go away, have tried just about everything I know of. It seems to get worse with higher signal level.
The crackling is cyclic.
Adjusted the following with no improvement; ACPI and Standard PC, every possible combination of buffer sizes and latency, different PCI slots. All devices are on seperate IRQ's
Here are the specs;
AMD Athlon XP2000+
ASUS K7V333 BIOS v1012
512MB PC2700 RAM
Adaptec 29160N SCSI Controller
2-Quantum Atlas 10k 18GB SCSI drives(one for OS, other for recording) NTFS, default cluster size
Jaton MX440 Dual video
Win2k no service packs
VIA 4in1 v4.48
SONAR 1
2-Delta 1010's
Delta driver v51000029
no other software installed

did you check to see if the delta 1010 is compatable with the Via chipset you are using? that would e the first thing i would do? Via had a bad rep for there pci bandwith not being up to par. But with all that said I ran a via chipset and some problems at first but i was able to get it working pretty good.
Did you do the standard pc with a fresh install of the os ?
Also is this a new setup?

The chipset is supposed to be compatable. And yes, it was a brand new install with Standard PC. I used this system before, only difference was the mobo, ASUS K7V266 and RAM was PC2100. It had crackling too, just not as bad. The noise only appeared when recording 16 tracks simultaneously.
Its not the Chipset.
Its the 160 SCSI controller. It's a real bus hog and is taking resource away from the Delta's. Resulting in Click's and Pop's.

Any way to work around it? I went to SCSI because IDE couldn't keep up with more than 8 tracks.

Wow, are you kidding? I easily get 24 x 24bit tracks off my IDE drive while using less than 50% of my HDD bandwidth (according to Sonar anyway). That's with a WD800JB drive (80G 8M cache). My last generation drive is only about 60% as fast though (40G 2M cache).
What are you running in terms of Sample rate and bit depth.

I was using 16/44.1 I also tried 24/44.1 and got the same results.
I think you had a serious IDE issue holding you back. I was able to get more than 8 tracks at 16/44.1 with a AMD K6-2 450 and a 8Gb ATA33 drive over 5 years ago. ...But that doesn't help you with your SCSI problem, don't know what to tell you there.
On another subject, you should go ahead and install SP4 for your win2k installation. There's alot of performance / compatibility updates rolled up in there that could make a difference.
the issue is that there is a compatibility issue the 160 SCSI. I am getting well about 20 tracks at 24/48.
If you were running 8 track at 24/96 and seeing clicks and pops as 8 track. I could understand. But, you can not get 8 tracks at 16/44.1 with an IDE drive. Then it should like you are having IRQ problems.
First ditch the SCSI card. IDE is plenty fast for 24/48. And look at your irq list and make sure that the Delta as sitting pretty on there own IRQ.

I had a clicking problem with my system in several different configurations. In my case it was USB every time, and disabling USB killed the clicks 100%. Luckily I don't use USB to record anyway. It would be worth a try to defeat USB (in Windows, not in bios) and see if you get lucky.
My system:
Abit BE6-II MB with HPT366 XP driver & Abit "XU" bios
Pentium III - 1 ghz CPU @ 100mhz buss
768 meg of RAM
Two Maxtor IDE hard drives running at UDMA66
Windows XP pro
Delta 1010 w/5.10.00.0027 driver
SBlive
Net card for DSL
Dialup modem
USB running Sony Palm link, Memorex flash card reader, and HP 2200c scanner
HP 6L laser printer
Yamaha 24x CD burner w/ NERO 5 ver. 5.5.9.0
DVD rom drive
Sonar XL 1.3.1
Soundforge 5f
Waves Ren 1 & 2 plugins
Word Perfect 10.0.0.719

Sui- the Delta's are on seperate irq's.
Ten's- I'll try the USB disable
wogg- I'll add SP4 if the USB doesn't fix it

I should restate that you need to try disabling USB specifically in Windows. I first tried disabling USB in BIOS on my mother board, but it would still click and pop.
Cool thing about WinXP is that you can disable/enable USB and other things without rebooting each time...

Tens- Tried disabling USB in Windows, then bios, no luck.
All- I removed the SCSI as suggested by sui. Reinstalled OS, standard pc, bios defined irqs, 2 40Gb EIDE drives (1 OS, 1 audio) and Wahooo! It works! 16 tracks @ 24/48 and no rice crispies! After 6 months of headaches, $600 on SCSI drives and controllers, I finally have a working system. This forum is a great resource. Thanks to all who helped!
