Greetings to All !!!
First post here.
Hope you will bear wth me.
I'm a complete idiot when it comes to the digital domain.
After searching for a sound card that would allow me to transfer 8 tracks of Adat digital audio, via light pipe , to my PC apps.,(Cubase SX, Sonar XL 2.0, Nuendo, and even Guitar Tracks).
I purchased the Steinberg VSL 2020.
My basis for selection was the following:
- The card has 2 Adat optical ins
2 Adat optical outs
- S/PDIF I/O
- Analog I/O
- Supports ASIO 2.0,WDM,and MME
All of these features to accomplish a simple task > Transfer 8 tracks Adat digital audio simultaneusly via light pipe, to any of my Host Apps., for editing and mixdown.
This card is really designed,specifically,
for the purpose of networking multiple PC's in a VST Link. http://www.steinbergusa.net/Products/VSL_2020.htm
( Above URL if interested )
Well; no luck so far.
And many issues as well.
I receive constant static when my Adat XT is powred up & connected via lightpipe.
Only action that prevents this, is actually
only partially engaging either end of the optical cable, into it's respective input.
Also, I cannot put the PC in STANDBY mode.
That is to say, if I do so, I have no audio
when coming out of STANDBY.
If any audio file is opened; the application just hangs.
This problem is only resolved by REBOOTING.
If that isn't enough; the only transfer of audio into any application software, occurs
as stereo grouped channels.
So, I transfer 8 channels of audio, but really get 4 stereo pairs.
MORE ???
YOU BET ----->
In the first three days after the initial hardware installion; my PC has crashed over a half dozen times.
Reatailer suggested that I contact Steinberg Support.
No response from Steinberg thus far.
I submit this post to all who are considering the purchase of the Steinberg VSL 2020, for the same purposes that I have.
I also seek any & all comments from people who
are more experiened than I ( and that would be more than quite a few of you ).
Much Love & Good Karma To All who read this post.
And Especially To All Who Are So Generous With
Their Most Valued Knowledge.
Thanks For Reading
PS -> I am a drummer
That should explain a lot
about the trouble I am having.(Heh..Heh)
