The Lynx Two. Period! There are three different models with different quantities of inputs and outputs between them. The price range is between $850.00 - $1,200.00 depending on which one you chose.

I've heard very good things from RME (with their new multiface) and sek'd/marian

The MOTU 2408 converters aren't exceptional but those in their 1296 & 24i are. As already mentioned the Lynx 2 is about as good as it gets if your just looking for sound cards with AD/DA but I would't go as far as to say they're the best period. At a certain level of quallity the point becomes moot.

The Ad in a waves hardware L2 is very nice. As is the lynx 2... Plenty of choices depending on what suits your particular setup the best.
The best advice would be to call these audio card companies and ASK them what converters they use.
They are using the same or very similar models made by AKM or Crystal.
Not very many of them, if any at all in the sub $1000 price range, actually design their own converters.
Check it out.

Did you listen to Creamware´s soundcards?
if you need a pair of I/Os they are great.
They also have ADAT I/O up to 24 channels on each card, and you can use your prefered converter up to 24 Bits.
The analog I/Os of the creamware cards are 110DB dinamyc range and 0.15+/- db frequency response...
You can choose between balanced or unbalanced I/Os...
Very flexible...
I own one, and its great...

While I haven't had the pleasure of using them myself, my observations of this topic in various forums, as commented on by the people I have come to know as the most knowledgable, has time and time again pointed to the Lynx cards as having the best converters and best sound. I also just recently read that the Lynx 2 cards do buss mastering, which takes a big load off of the CPU. I know what my next soundcard is gonna be. http://www.audioforums.com/forums/smile.gif

Even though this thread was originally about A/D converters, another thing about the Lynx cards is how great their D/A converters sound. Very important feature if you are doing your own mastering.
I have a pair of LynxONE cards, and haven't used anything yet that sounds as good.

If you want to combine the best performance with the best converter quality, The RME with good break-out box (Like the Native Tools), is the way to go. Heres another expensive one: RME/MYTEK (http://www.atlasproaudio.com/mytek.html)
The Lynx cards are probably the best sounding integrated solution followed closely by the RME Multiface.
