M-Audio MobilePre usb adapter

I am looking for a audio adapter for some field recordings of Sound effects, on a laptop. and have found the
M-Audio MobilePre. (http://www.m-audio.com/products/m-audio/mobilepre.php)

haven't got one yet but it seems to fit my needs even Phantom power

does anyone have experience with this box? is it as good as they say? How is the sound quality on the in side? are the mic preamps good? I am not looking for perfect but want a heck of a lot better than the crap built into my laptop.

Actually it works real well. As long as you understand that the device is 16 bit only.

This limits that dynamic range and SNR to about 96dB.

But outside of that. Buss powered, Direct monitoring,mac and pc drivers....

Its all good.
