i love that card, finally got it yesterday after waiting what seemed like forever. recording and playback is cleaner and clearer than i thought it could be. i'm running 2kSP3 on a Sis 745 board.

two little quibbles which i'd like to report, if anyone could chime in with a clue i'd be most appreciative.

i'm dual-booting 2k (both NTFS volumes), and my DAW partition sounds flawless. however, when i try to play a .wav or .mp3 on the everyday-use side, and even when windows makes it's windows sounds, i get scratches and pops. i d/l and installed the latest driver from the m-audio site (5.10.00.0029) to no avail. i've played around extensively with the card setings (buffer size, sample rate, etc) to no avail.

what's odd is that i flubbed it up when setting up by dual-boot system and accidentally made my everyday-use partition non ACPI and my DAW partition ACPI (i know, should have been the other way around).

i've heard i should move the soundcard out of PCI slot 1 because the AGP uses some of those recources, but i've only a dinky 32MB AGP and i've stepped it down to 2x in the BIOS, so i've my doubts as to whether that would help.

i've also heard i should switch the soundcard to IRQ 5 and use IRQ10 for video card, however my device manager claims that they are both using IRQ 11 and i don't seem to be able to have the capability to change that......????

oh, and somehow in CEP i can no longer hear the audio while it's being recorded. i can monitor it fine, and can monitor the wavefor with the level meters, it's just that when "record" is pressed, no audio comes through the speakers.

well, if anyone has any points or hints to assist me in sorting this i'd certainly appreciate it. you folks are genuises. thanks in advance.

With the IRQ issue, try swapping the Delata to a diff PCI slot, then check the IRQ< repeat until you have it right.

With the crackle in windows sounds, try a slightly older driver perhaps?
Otherwise check your buffer settings, and make sure the monitor mixer is not going to the red etc.

I would also check the cd drives, just for giggles, speed

thx guys, will try swapping the pci card to another slot tonite.

got the monitoring issue sorted http://www.audioforums.com/forums/smile.gif

of concern is that it seems to be clicking and popping on the DAW side as well, just to a much lesser extent. i notice it only when working with some rahter complicated techno-stuff in FL4.

i was looking on the m-audio site for older drivers for win2k....and i can pull up a list of the current driver and a few betas....but nothing really for older releases. am i missing it?

thanks again all for your help. it is quite appreciated.

I have noticed that too wok on playback but the files are ok, I haven't trouble shooted yet, but I think it might be windows buffers, or just cache in my case (P4)

well, turns out there was an IRQ conflict that was sorted as soon as i pulled the card out of PCI1 and moved it to PCI2.

however, it hasn't resolved the cracks/pops in playback in WMP9 on the everyday side. i set it all up per m-audio's tech support guidelines in control panel > sounds and multimedia but still a nogo.

the cracks in fruity were because i didn't have the ASIO driver selected. that's fine now as well.

so now it seems that the DAW side is fine....but the everyday side is not. thinking of rolling back WMP9 to WMP6.4 to see if that helps....any other ideerz?

thanks again mates.

*bumpety*

well, the rollback was a nogo. but there may be some registry keys that won't go away.

someone has given me the idea that i need DX9 if i have WMP9 installed. does that make sense?

no shared IRQ's on either side, the card is on IRQ 10 in the everyday side and IRQ 17 in the DAW side.

the SiS PCI IDE controller is successfully installed, with no conflicts.

the only BIOS revision available for my mobo does not apply to my situation.

the only real difference in the architecture of the two OS's is that the everyday side is non-ACPI (all wrong, i know), has SP3, and has internet access. other than that, they are both set up per the opus audio 2k optimization guide.

i am at a loss http://www.audioforums.com/forums/frown.gif

ick, DX9 did nothing and the issue persists in Winamp 2.8. :@(

Probably not a friendly suggestion as it may involve a re-load, but perhaps your platform is happier with ACPI.

My take on the old ACPI vs. standard PC debate is:
Win98 - Standard PC
Win2K - 50/50 chance with either
WinXP - ACPI
