View Full Version : what could cause this (high pitched squeel)

i got a new echo mia midi card.

it seems to work fine, including nice midi response.

but then it will "lock" on me with a high-pitched squeel. even if i close out of the application, it's still there. also, the console meters on the mia software panel are maxed out/overloaded and stay pinned.

i have to reboot to get back to normal.

i've been using some experimental vsti's, but i don't think it's a "hung note" issue.
but i am playing around with this demo synth that emits a nasty-ass pink noise tone every 20 seconds or so when you are playing.

do you think demo synth could be freaking my soundcard out? even if i'm not playing that vsti, mabye it's lurking around in the background with that nasty sound and then it somehow interrupts the soundcard or something.

i'm really rooting for this card because it has a nice sound and its quiet, the midi timing is nice, it's gigasampler compatible and it's a good price. that's a lot of things to like.

i just played back an audio-only project, and it seemed fine. it didn't lock even when i was messing with the soundcard console, adjusting between +4/-10 and moving virtual faders. so maybe it's just some of these beta/demo freaky synths that is causing my card to trip.

any ideas on this?

Did you install the card with the software that came in the box or did you go up to Echo's website and get the newest drivers????

I had this problem when I got my card last year, but it was solved by downloading newer drivers. The disks in all software boxes are usually well out-of-date....

(What version are you running??)

echo mia midi
console version 6.07
driver version 6.07

another weird thing that is happening is that the card will lose sound. it usually happens after i try to adjust something in the software i'm working with. and what's really weird is the levels in the software go down to zero and show nothing. it's like the echo card is controlling the daw software and telling it to kill all volume output.

when i switch over to my cheezy on-board computer mobo sound, i can get sound back and listen through the headphone jack on my computer. but then when i try to switch back to the echo asio-wdm driver, everything silences again. so annoying!

and then all i can do is restart. i've tried all sorts of things like "locking the sample rate" etc. but the only way back is a restart.

Did you turn off the system sounds in the control panel as stated in the manual? If not the card will try to lock to any of those low sample rate sounds. Then again if you set your cheapy sound card to play those sounds in the control panel who knows but I was never brave enough to try using one meeself. http://www.audioforums.com/forums/eek.gif Also, important to mention is what audio software are you using? I remember having that same problem but don't remember exactly why. I do know I had problems until I configured Sonar audio settings properly. Again, in the manual, driver read me file or Echo web site. Instructions for Sonar configuration are in the read me file, page 18. The read me file if you don't have it is next to the driver download on the Echo site.

Good luck!

I had the same issue not too long ago using the latest drivers for the Mia .....squealing and pegged meters in the echo console. First time it happened I nearly soiled myself.

The solution for me was going into internet options/advanced menu and disabling web audio playback. Its been a few weeks since and so far so good.

i think my internet sounds are already off.
i went to tools>>internet options>>advanced. then i scrolled down to multimedia and the "sounds" box was already unchecked.
is that what you mean?

yes, system sounds are competely off. i'm using different software and these problems are universal to all the software.

it seems like midi has a lot to do with it. i'm noticing that when i try to play some midi notes into a vsti, that it can often cause the mia console to shut off, and then i get no sound or meter levels from it.
