just got a delta 44 off ebay and a,m waiting for it to arrive:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2545207825&category=41784&rd=1

in the interest of keeping my DAW partition uncluttered, i want to know if it's necessary to set up the control panel interface program, and the best way to do so if there are options (i.e., custom, advanced, express, etc.). my gut reaction is to just put the driver in and let winblows manage the rest of it so it doesn't get confused.

it's an athlon 1900+ w/ a Sis 745 chipset and Win2k. i run CEP 2.0 and FL4 PE, among other things.

ideas and thoughts are appreciated. thanks in advance.

The driver is very light and will not clutter anything. Install goes like this:
-Get the latest driver from M-Audio 's website.
-Extract it to your HD somewhere (self-extracting exe)
-shut down, install the card and boot up
-Windows detects the new hardware and asks for driver
-Point it to where you extracted the driver
Windows takes care of the rest.

yes, absolutely, but afterwards, isn't there some kind of control panel software that comes with the card?

my question is whether this software is necessary and/or helpful or not.

again, thanks for any help.

The control panel software is installed with the driver automatically by windows. It only takes about 50k of space or so and is real handy to setup sample rates, I/O routing and is necessary to take advantage of the monitor mixer.
