i recently purchased a Asus A7V8X based on the VIA KT400 chipset (woops). I bought a XP2400+ and 2 sticks of 256m corsair DDR PC2700 at 333mhz.
i still have a few days to return the MB, and i think i will just to be on the safe side (im getting a aardvark 24/96 or Omni Studio) and im considering a nForce2 chipset, but ive heard of stability problems with Asus A7N8X. can anyother suggest a good stable nForce2 motherboard that will allow me to use the hardware i already have? or perhaps even another chipset if nForce2 stability is not yet good enough. thanks.

Well i have the A7N266-VM. The only probs are the ones I know I make myself and backtrack.

But the board rocks! With the exception it's Micro ATX. May I suggest the A7N266-E.

Or take a gander at the specs of 4 more chipsets here http://www.asus.com/products/mb/overview_amd.htm

I'm seeing great reviews of the MSI K7N2L ($99.00), and happy DAW user posts from MSI K7N2L owners. I don't have the board myself, but research turned it up as one board to consider.

I think I'll be going with a dual XEON board, myself. Audio apps can't use the dual, but video sure can!

I have a A7N8X on it's way to my apartment as we speak, along with an 2100 Athlon.

I'll keep you up to date. I haven't heard a whole lot of bad things about the board concerning stablity at all. The only major problem that I have heard is that a guy had problems with WinME and the nForce2....WinME is just plain bad...badbadbadbadbadbad...that was his problem right there! http://www.audioforums.com/forums/smile.gif

Triple Lind:
What AGP card are you planning on installing in your Nforce2 board? Do let us know when everything is up and running. My concern lies in a recent post regarding 4x / 8x backward compatability. I was planning on a Matrox g550 to go along with my Asus a7n8x but someone (sorry for forgetting the name!!!)said he tried it and went with ATI 8x instead.

Anyway, good luck and happy recording!

Someone told me nForce chipsets wouldn't work with my Radeon VE (value card with Dual Monitor) as well. He was certain it wouldn't.

Works like a charm. Knowing abit about configuring it yourself is key.

I'm going to run a GeForce 4 Ti4200. I should say that this isn't going to be a dedicated DAW, but I will probably end up running CEP 2.0 on it and doing very basic recordings with it through an Audiophile 2496. The guitar player in my band has a studio in his basement, so me making a dedicated DAW isn't really a solid option. I'll have it for recording song ideas and stuff on it.

I have a RATI Radeon 7500 dual. Is the same as you? I'm plan to buy a7n8x. Do you know if will works? In case not, how did you do to reconfigurate it?
I would apreciate so much your help.

You all ought to check out the Nforcers site, www.nforcers.com, (http://www.nforcers.com,) and the Asus forum there. Lots of people are having big problems with booting, they're currently trying to figure out if it's the crap battery Asus has been putting in the boards or something worse with the board itself. Mind you, these are a bunch of overclockers who are constantly trying to outperform each other, but usually they know the tech stuff...

A7N8X, looks good on paper anyway.
