Hello there,

I would like to set up two different Windows 7RC 64bit operating systems for different applications on my laptop. HDD partitioned as follows:

T:/ Traktor System- This would be soley for the use of Native Instruments Traktor Pro digital DJing software. It would have no internet connection, no antivirus software (run periodic checks), all non essential devices would be disabled and the os would be tweaked to use least possible resources. Ultra stability is the goal.

C:/ System- I could run this with all 'bells and whistles'. Internet and AV protection. Updates for T:drive and contained apps could be saved onto D:/

D:/ Data partition- Music files, updates for running on T:/etc...

Is this a good idea?

I have been trying to find some info on how to set up and run a system such as this but not had much luck. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

All opinions and suggestions welcome! Thank you.

In the ancient days of the 1990s, you had to strip systems down to get audio and video applications to run.

Just isn't neccesary anymore.

All of my DAWs are straight installs and protected with antivirus, antimalware and I've had ZERO problems running audio and video editing software.

Plus, ANY time you're running without protection you risk infections (factory install disks can even be infected - I worked for a company that did that to it's customers once when we subcontracted software development out overseas...)

I'd prefer to have the Windows 7 os stripped right down as it really was a PAIN to get Traktor running smoothly with Vista. I know it might be overkill but I'll have peace of mind.

Regarding the Anti Virus....anything installed on the second os will have been downloaded onto the data partition with the os using AV protection. Also, when I do a complete system scan wouldn't my AV go through all partitions on the HDD?

Is there any good reading on setting up Windows OS for digital audio software, particularly in a dual boot environment? Possibly info on swap space/paging aswell? I have been searching but its hard to find relevent stuff!

Thanks guys
