hi there. I have an issue. I have recently formatted my C: to rid myself of vista and have replaced it with a stripped version of xp. I thought this would help with my cpu usage in FL studio but it seems tat it has made matters worse. I have a core 2 duo centrino laptop with 2 gb ram and stripped xp seems to run out of cpu quicker than vista. this comes as a shock and any advice would be much appreciated.

I recently had to do a reinstall of my system, also. Not FL, though. I had put the demo version of Windows 7 on a separate partition and I'm sure that it wonked my XP, somehow.

I don't use FL but it might help if you gave a few details of what sort of a project you're running when it tops out and messages/behavior you may be getting when it happens.

This is a computer issue not a software issue. Midi applications are not as cpu intensive as audio software is. I too, have a dual core centrino with 2 ghz of RAM, although vista has its troubles it should still run without latency.

When you talk about latency I assume you mean a MIDI controller. All you needed to do was simply partition the HDD to unallocated space. Running two different OS is very suspect. I can rewire Reason in to Pro Tools 7.4 with no latency.

I would try running just one OS and having a 'logical' partition (i.e not a bootable one).

Check your buffers. Setting High Buffers will result in longer latency to/from software. Lowering it will indeed use more DSP for throughput.

Laptop and DAW - hmmmm . Any way if you want to use Vista on laptop you will be surprised how much improvement you will get with 4 Gb of RAM memory. Also i will recommended 64 bit Vista. There is fact that FL works with 4 Gb like charm.
