hi, I'm looking to get some studio headphones. i want them to have quite good sound and ti be soundproof, but really i'd like to try and get the cheapest ones possible.
I just don't know much about the technical aspects that they list for different headphones.
i thing the only couple of requirements i have with them is that they are 1/4 inch jacks with regularsmaller jack adapter for say a standard mp3 player or something. also i'd like a nice sturdy chord that doesn't coil. apart from that, the cheaper the better i guess.
i'm not sure how much it matters which headphones i'd get, but just in case there's anything i should really not get, or the best value would be best.

I can say with certainty that you do NOT want to buy Nady headphones..
I have Sennheiser HD280's and really like them. The cost a hundred dollars..although I bought mine from a guy that needed money for $45..
Great headphones with good isolation.
I believe that's the term you are looking for, not "soundproof".. There are others in the hundred dollar range.

ya isolation that's what i want, exactly. ya i'm thinking it will be around 100$
but really i'd like to find headphones that are what i need, rather than what i want, and then the only other feature i care about is price.
i'm wondering though too what are bare necessity tech specs so that i don't need to listen to all the headphones, or are tech specs not indicative enough of sound you can expect?
but thanks i'll not buy Nady ones. i'll lookout for Sennheiser HD280 ones too.

Isolation from what? Are you trying to mix with headphones or play an instrument with headphones?
It also depends on what you're listening to, as different headphones will lend themselves to different tasks. If I was editing voiceover, I would lean towards my Sony MDR 7506s. If I'm doing music, I would probably look at something else. I recently tried out a pair of Audio-Technica AT50s, and decided they weren't for me. They seemed to have a lot of low-end (whereas my Sonys don't have a prevalent low-end). They also clamped onto my head like a vice--so I'm not sure I could wear them for 8 hours a day while I edit. However, I'm sure they are great for tracking or mixing music, where that low-end might come in handy.

Isolation from a mic. i won't be mixing in the DJ sense, but if the DAW sense. playing instruments and singing.
ya non-vice clamping headphones are key, good point, i could see some headphones seeming ok at first, but then a couple of hours in would start to be real crushing.
the only thing i don't think i would go for with the MDR 7506s at first glance would be the coil chord. i think it would get in the way for playing acoustic guitar and stuff like that. but i do like the input+extension on there though, and the rugged look of that thick chord.
